To be or Knot?
To Be or Knot? That is the question!
Will you land that trophy fish or will it be “The one that got away”?
Let’s face it, Everything depends on your knot. The knot on the end of the line is the most important part of your set-up, yet is usually over-looked ro an after thought. Weather you tie straight on or use a hybrid line set-up (braid to fluorocarbon/mono, line to bite wire, line to tippet, etc.) the knots you tie need to be bullet-proof! Let’s face it: lures can cost upwards of $20 and re-tying sucks! (Ouch!)
Early on I was frustrated by weak, ineffective knots that led to many lost lures, wasted time and missed fish. I realized I had to learn some better knots that were quick and easy to tie so I could spend more time fishing and actually enjoy it. I quickly learned that not all knots work the same. There is no “One Size Fits All” knot. Some work with certain lines well, but others not at all. Some can make a hook stand out away for the line, while others let a hook move and swing. There’s a knot for every occasion. There are Hook knots, Swivel knots, Line knots, Stopper knots, Dropper knots… even astro-knots! (bad pun– please catch and release!)
